I need your help!

I need help and I am asking you all to give me your input. My sweet friend Janet gave me this dresser and I am stuck on whether to paint it or refinish it.
The top isn't in great shape but not bad either. I was going to stain it darker.

And I was thinking of painting the bottom a pale, pretty pink since the hardware is so girly. But I was going to keep the top stained since it is a high traffic area.

Something like this but with a wood top….

Isn't this hardware and key hole beautiful. I just think pale pink would  highlight these details so sweetly.

It also comes with a pretty mirror which makes it even more girly to me….. but the frame that the the mirror is attached to is getting repaired right now so I can't show you the whole thing. But is is very similar to the one on the pink dresser above, albeit a bit more square.

So what do you think?
 Keep it oak?
Paint it pale pink?
Or how about suggesting another color???

Always being renewed,

  1. Do both! Refinish the top and paint the bottom. That way you can have the best of both worlds!

  2. i like the idea of a dark top with pink bottom, but only if the mirror is not on it. if the mirror is on it i think the dark top would look weird... then i would go all pink!

  3. I agree with Cassie. However, the idea of it being all pink is in my opinion the best way to go. you could always do a piece of glass or Plexiglas on the top to protect it if you are afraid of it getting scratched up.

    1. I am leaning towards the all pink but after I get the mirror fixed I'll try and post pics of that because that might help everyone help me decide =-)

  4. I am a sucker for a wood top and painted base. I think pale pink it perfect, especially with the mirror. As usual, your instincts are right on!

  5. I really like the idea of the stained top and painted bottom, I think that would look beautiful! Can't wait to see what you choose.

  6. Maybe it would be double the work... but if you remain indecisive, you could always refinish it to see if you like how it turns out... and if that end result isn't satisfactory, then you can always slap a coat of paint on it. That's much easier than painting it first, then deciding that wasn't the best option and having to try to strip the paint off! *winks*

  7. Kim,
I love this dresser, dear one!!!
I use one similar in Studio One (my creative space) to store scapbooking papers.
However, "Mr.Ed" and I just refinished and painted a sewing machine cabinet together in Studio One!
I'm attaching the link so you can see. . .
we did two coats of dark walnut stain, then painted the bottom Agreeable Gray!!!
I think you'd be thrilled with your idea of staining the top and painting the bottom!!!
Thank you for your sweet comment and visit On Crooked Creektt!
