One Kings Lane Home Decor Guide

In the beginning of December, Chloe from One Kings Lane (from here on out to be called OKL) asked if I would be willing to help them introduce their Home Decor Resource Guide. If you don't know already, OKL is an online home decor retailer.
They created this resource to inspire and educate laypeople like myself about purchasing chairs and just defining your personal design style. Chloe asked if I would be willing to feature a statement chair from my home that reflects my personal style on my blog.
Of course!

I have many chairs in my home that make a statement, and that statement is mostly, "you have kids living here don't you???" Seriously though, I love furniture and a great chair is always in style.

Although this chair is not an antique, it does make a statement just based on the color I chose for it. Canary yellow!
When we re-did the living room last January, I was blessed with being able to purchase a new sofa and chair. Subconsciously I guess I was thinking my chair would be a statement because I wanted color. As the OKL website shares, statement pieces make a statement by using color, style, pattern or a combination of those things. They are meant to say something and the great part about that is you get to be the one deciding what it says!

I think mine says "Wake up!"

I also just love the look of mid-century furniture. So although this chair is not 60 years old, it is designed to look like it came from that era. Like many chairs from that era, it has a striking color and clean boxy lines. The great thing about the OKL resource guide is that if I was not sure about my chair I could research it and get an idea of the history of it. They have  divided the information into eras and style so you can attack your research from either angle. I love history and even though I knew what era this chair was meant to mimic, I spent about an hour on the site just researching furniture and ideas because it has a wealth of information.

I especially liked the resource on statement chairs because if you were looking into purchasing a statement piece, it gives invaluable advice about how to go about doing that in a well thought out process. Me, I know what I like so I just go with my gut on most purchases but not everyone is like that so if you are more of a planner, than this would be a very good place to start your statement piece journey.

Through out each article there are a number of highlighted words or ideas that will keep you reading and clicking to new and interesting information.

Because of this, I see this resource being used in about three (maybe more, I just haven't thought of more yet…give me time!) ways…..First, researching the background of a piece you already own and wanting to discover it's origins or some history behind your piece. Second, as a starting point for purchasing a new piece of furniture or discovering your style and therefore giving you some direction in that purchase. And lastly but certainly not least, use it for just plain INSPIRATION! There are so many beautiful pictures of furniture and in so many different settings, you will be pinning all day I tell ya'!

Once you are have been using the guide, you can then head over to the retail side of the site and browse their sales. I have never purchased from them but I can tell you  that they have a range of pricing so if you see something that might seem expensive,  be patient as they have lots of sales ON their sales. They are also a good way to judge what a good price is if you see it in a brick and mortar store.

What is YOUR statement going to be?

  1. Happy New Year, Kim!
I love your chair, and the thought that went into it.
I'm going to do the OKL post, too...if I can decide which chair fits my style best. They are such a hodge-podge in my home! Blessings, friend.
