Vintage pyramid console table

SO here is the first of the furniture finds that got completed.

Here is the before:

And here she is dressed up...

I originally had the hardware in silver but did not like the tri-color effect. As soon as I sprayed them black, I knew it was the right choice. Love the tuxedo look.

What do you think?

What will these turn into?

December is a crazy month for us. We have 3 birthdays, an annual cookie exchange, and this year we added a trip to NYC to celebrate my In-laws 50th! So I did not touch a single piece of furniture for hover 6 weeks and it was killin' me. Every time I'd go to the basement to do laundry or get something from the freezer, pieces below would just stare at me hoping to at least get sanded or prepped in some way. The guilt was too much so as soon as I put the Christmas decorations away, the sander got to doin' its thang and I have been happily painting and spraying this whole week.

I want to showcase each piece but here are some pics of the girls before they got their groove back.

The leather inset had to go and I am currently looking for ideas on what to fill it with. Any ideas?

I am finally getting back in the groove of furniture re-poshturing and it feels GRRRRReat! I am also trying to get my bedroom re-done. It always seems to me that I do every other room in the house first and I live with an ugly bedroom forever. So in an effort to at least make it more usable, I did re-arrange it and I love it!  Now to some pics of what is inspiring me for the room.

Orange and gray is the main color palate. But then I love turquoise as well so that may make it's way into the room too. I just want to say that orange and I were BFF's way before it became so popular! I don't know what that gets me, maybe just a trendy room that will be out of style in two years but at least it will make me happy. My foyer is tangerine on two walls and every time I come down the stairs I smile. So I think bold color choices are for me.

you know I love that ceiling! Our ceiling has those acoustic tiles so I need some inspiration on how to camouflage them b/c after removing them from one room of our house, I want to avoid it like the plaque.

Love the whole concept but I would replace everything yellow with orange.

Anniversary

Today I am officially married to my man for 18 years!  We have been together since 1987 so that makes us a couple for 24 years. I know this is just a saying but I do feel like it was just yesterday that we got married in an ice storm. He is camera shy so i won't post any pics out of respect for him so I can't show you the original wedding photos, so funny, or a recent pic of us to make  you laugh even harder but use your imaginations.

Here are some things I've learned and am still perfecting with God's grace.  Please do not assume that I am acting like a know-it-all with only 18 years under my belt. These are hard won lessons and and I am so glad God not only taught them to me but gave me a heart willing to listen. Hopefully, these might help you avoid some heartache in your marriage and will help you fall more deeply in love with your spouse.

1.  Believe in the goodness of your mate. Very few people intentionally mean to hurt you so make sure you are not reading into the motive more than there is. Usually it IS just an inconvenient oversight or mistake. Believe that they mean well.

2.  Analyze YOURSELF first after a misunderstanding or argument. You had something to do with it and you need to understand the why. We usually spend all of our time trying to make ourselves the right one and we should be making sure that we aren't justifying our behaviors.

3. Most of all, make yourself willing to change and adjust before asking your mate to change. Don't get angry that they aren't changing if you aren't willing to do the same.

4. Sit next to your mate when watching TV.

5. Give the "Signal" to your mate often.....make sure they know what the signal is.

6. Do not forget to do little things for your mate, like buy their favorite mouthwash when they mention they are out. Guess what? They start doing this for you too.

7.  Love is a choice not a feeling so don't make choices based on what "your heart" says. Love starts out as a feeling but when those oohey, gooey feelings fade, and they will, you make a choice everyday to do the loving and be the loving. When you choose to love, the feelings grow and  stay,     as long as you choose.

Happy Anniversary Babe.

New Year, BIG ideas

Happy New year Everyone!  I hope everyone survived the holidays intact and more in love with their family than before. After all, isn't what the holidays are about? We spent many a night telling stories about the fam and at least once or twice I came dangerously close to shooting soda out of my nose. I won't post those pictures, you'll thank me later. I was very busy over the Christmas break. My days all seemed to go like this: Cook, clean, repeat. Kinda like the directions on shampoo but without the bubbles.

I am a bit tired but well fed as the scale never ceases to remind me. So of course that will be my first New Year's ambition. Not resolution because I am not resolute about losing weight. Resolute means determined and I go about it very casually. Which explains why the last 5 pounds of baby weight don't seem to go anywhere but truthfully, I am learning that those 5 pounds are really a badge of honor.  I mean, honestly, when you push out 3 bowling balls, you deserve to wear a bit of cushion proudly.

Enough about the weight gain and more about how great my hubby is! I am currently typing this post on a brand new MAC Book Pro! He heard my cries of woe, and maybe a few fist punches on  the desk due to the slowness of our old computer every time I tried to edit a photo or write a post. He heard and delivered. Holy Mac Pro, Batman, is this fast! I. am. in. love.....with my husband and a little with my MAC (there I said it)!

Also, please say a prayer for me as I embark on a new adventure. I think I may have stumbled into the furniture design business. I always have trouble falling to sleep because I have a hard time shutting off my ideas. Anyone else do this? Thank you every woman on the face of the earth. I love mid-century design but have yet to find one for our TV. Well, as usual when I need something that I can't find, I start thinking (my husband usually says that is dangerous) and I came up with an idea. My BIL is currently making a prototype of the TV stand and hopefully if it sells well, I will have birthed a furniture company. At least it isn't another bowling ball.

NYC!

Thought I'd post some pics of our trip to NYC. It was a little hairy trying to keep 8 people together especially when two like to wander. Yes the 74 year old FIL and the 3 year old, and then there is the 77 year old MIL who was an amazing trooper given that she has a bum knee, replaced in October, and it made for an eventful three days!

Cool 12 year old in NYC
Radio City Music Hall Chandy....I think it'll look fabulous in my foyer!

Getting up at 4:30am will do this to ya. Poor baby

Cool 8 year old with her 3d glasses. Wish I had the pic of my FIL in them as well. Priceless.

Times Square 2012 Ball

Haven't changed the year yet!

Hershey Store, a must see if you are a woman in need of chocolate

Campbell Apartment in Grand Central. This is the ceiling!!!!

Window of the apartment.

Grand Central Station ceiling. Another ceiling, I must always be looking up. It has constellations on it and lights at location of the stars. Jackie Kennedy was the one who orchestrated the restoration of the station. So glad she did. Gorgeous.

The ball that was between the North and South tower on 9.11 and the eternal flame in front. I am amazed and thankful that more of it was not destroyed.

Always looking for inspiration

North Tower Pool. You must make a journey here. You cannot help but be moved to tears from touching the names of the individuals who gave there lives that day. I can not describe it to you. It is something that must be experienced for yourselves.

Freedom Tower. Only 14 more floors to be completed!

With Love to you this Christmas. May God richly bless you this coming year. I love you guys.
