Happened upon this dresser this summer and just got around to getting it redone. It is a Berkey & Gay dresser that was in awesome condition. A few veneer issues but the inside of the drawers were in pristine condition which is unusual. Most times I have to scrape copious amounts of bad contact paper!
Berkey & Gay was a furniture company that originated in Michigan and they made beautiful pieces. A quick google search shows that they have also retained thier value due to the master craftsmen that made them.
I needed to fix a runner on one of the drawers and three of the six backplates were missing but I will show you a simple solution to replace those and fix the runner the next few days.
Love this feature but it was not in good shape so I had to paint over it. It took me a long time to re-do the dresser because I was stuck on color choice. I finally got some inspiration from Miss Mustard Seed and her Boxwood colored Milk Paint. I didn't buy the milkpaint but I found a color in the BEHR line that was close and I added my plaster of paris to make it into chalkpaint and went to town.
So happy with it. Stuck again on the color of the hardware. I finally settled on black. I was going to highlight some of the details in turquoise but when I did a small spot, I just didn't think it looked right so I added some stain to those areas instead and finally wax on and to the booth she went.
