The little stuff

I was reading my bible today and praying for ya'll and I came across a verse I had jotted down when I started all this blogging stuff. It is so simple but oh, so powerful in how much God loves us.

1 John 3:20
God is greater than our hearts

He knows what is in our hearts and He knows all of the things we desire and hold dear. And His desire is to give us even more than our hearts have the capacity to want and desire. So every time you think something is too small to bring before the Lord, remember that little verse, and ask bigger, go bigger, dream bigger or go home!

Fall Porch how-to's

I did two projects to help the front porch look her best. Our family name begins with "U" so I made an initial frame out of burlap, buttons, and upholstery tacks. I cut out a large U from a font I found online at the Graphics Fairy, modified it a bit and then traced it onto the burlap. Then using buttons in the white/cream family, filled in one side. I was not going to have enough to do both sides so I finished with the upholstery tacks. I love it even more than my original idea because there is so much texture in the composition.

My pumpkins were peeling and a fright from lack of Poshness. So I grabbed the glam-in-a-can and got to work. The gold one was sprayed gold first then I used my rubbed bronze in short bursts to give it the splotches. Then stood back about 2 feet and sprayed the bronze like your supposed to to age it a little more. The butternut squash is layered with cream and silver to look more like a pearl finish although it looks more silver than is is in the picture. The brown is my favorite. I used Kona brown all over and then stood back about 2 feet again and lightly sprayed the gold.
What have you done for your porches to make them posh for Fall?
Do tell......

And don't forget to head on over to B3hd to vote for my upcycled purse! The poll is on the right sidebar!

Fall Front Porch

Just thought I'd give you a look at the porch. I love how this came together.

Enjoy harvesting what you have sowed this year. I hope it is bountiful and full of life.

Two Toile Tables

Say THAT ten times fast!

I just refinished this pair of vintage Drexel 1963 Esperanto End Tables. Was thinking of adding a glazed finish but I think I like the crispness of them. What do you think?

Junk Vision

It was a Monday evening and I was scanning my neighborhood for fresh junk using my son's night vision goggles as I usually do the night before trash day and and this transom window practically ambushed me. If I weren't so alert to the dangers of night junking I would have been sniped. However my lightning fast reflexes jammed on the brakes, sent the purse to the floor for some cover and I slammed it into park, with the motor idling, of course, b/c some people are put off by junking (never the night vision glasses and army fatigues) and therefore a quick get-away is a must.

I was thinking this might take the place of my curtain debacle in my kitchen over the sink but when I got the window home it was too long so that idea had to go quietly back into the night. But as luck would have it, I was in Ross Dress for Less, because clothes are not something you should really trash pick, and found those words, you know, you can use on your wall? A hazy vision began to form...and then became clearer and then the happy feet started goin and I knew my mission.

 Mission accomplished!

Sometimes good stuff is simple
As simple as having a vision of how two things can be paired into one creation.

So Junk soldiers, your challenge this week if you choose to accept it, is to find two things and pair them up into one new creation. Anything goes. Send me pics via email and I would love to share them. You have a week to complete your mission.
It's Go Time women!

Upcycled purse

Round 2 of Crafting with the Stars Wallflowers and Crafting from the Sidelines:

Round 2 button

So because I was cooking all weekend and only had today to do the upcycled project, I had to look around the house for some inspiration. Here it goes:

3 old wool sweaters + old belt + old sheet = Purse?

No way!

Way!!

Not only FUN but FUNctional!
And it is washable, just remove knotted straps and agitate on the delicate cycle

This is how it got did:
I felted the sweaters
Cut off the arms (ouch!) and neck to make the body
Cut out a lining and added pockets from the old sheet
Used an old braided belt for the straps
Sewed the bottom using sleeve section and a blanket stitch to make it look flirty and flared
Used the neck of the felted brown sweater to make a rosette and the cuff of the green felted sweater to make the leaves.

Upcycled...Way up!

I'm linking up to Round 2 of Crafting from The Sidelines being hosted at b3designs , the voting poll is on the right sidebar.

I get votes by clicking on my link so the more clicks the more votes.

Thanks so much for all of your support. IT has been great fun so far!

A vote for my purse is a vote for the earth! (Get it recycling!?!)

Wine Weekend

My husband and his brother have been making wine since 2006. Every October heralds the crushing of the grapes followed the next weekend by the pressing. It is a weekend filled with pressing grapes, good food, and lots of laughter. Each year the pressing of the grapes lasts all day and friends come and go as their day allows. Some begin the day with us and some end the day with us, some begin and end with us. We love it and strive to create an atmosphere where those who come can relax and new memories can be created. This year my sister, brother-in-law and nephew were able to come, which always makes for great fun. So here are some pics to enjoy. Maybe you can come next year, we will have a glass ready for you.

Some of the crates, I see an upcycling project somewhere in the future....

MMMMM, crushed grapes
